Forrest K. Jones

Forrest Keith Jones, 93 years of age, of Lincoln, formerly of Auburn passed away suddenly at home on April 13, 2017. He was living with his daughter Kathy and son-in-law in Lincoln at the time of his death. Forrest was born on August 27, 1923 on a farm in Nemaha County. He was the son of Henry T. Jones and Ethel B. (Griffith) Jones. Forrest was the youngest of three children. He attended school in rural Nemaha. Forrest married Luella A. Eitzmann on January 9, 1943 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. He remained a member of this church until his death. Forrest entered the army on May 18, 1944 and served in World War II with the 777th tank battalion overseas. He took his training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and served with the 1st Army in France, Belgium and Germany. He served as a tank bow machine gunner. Forrest received the good conduct medal and was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946. Forrest had been a longtime member of the V.F.W. Forrest and Luella lived on a farm near Nemaha for most of their married life. They continued to go back and forth for a number of years, spending time at the farm, after moving to Auburn in their later years. Forrest had been living with his daughter and son-in-law since January, 2016. He was an excellent card and checker player, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and dearly loved the farm life. Forrest and Luella had three daughters, Mary, Linda, and Kathleen.

Forrest is survived by his children, Mary Hilt of Pittsburg, Kansas, Linda Dennis and husband Darrell of Surprise, Arizona, Kathy Frank and husband Perry of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luella on April 13, 2012; 2 sisters; a son-in-law; 2 infant grandsons; and 5 brothers-in-law. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday April 26, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn with Pastor Ken Miller officiating. A luncheon and time of fellowship will be directly after the service, followed by burial at Prairie Union Cemetery near Shubert. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday, April 25, 2017 with family greeting friends from 6-7 PM at Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the funeral home. Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn in charge of arrangements.
