Virgil Leland Kehr

Virgil Leland Kehr, 81, of Nemaha, Nebraska was born January 18, 1936 in Auburn, Nebraska to Alfred Leo and Marie Margaret (Yelkin) Kehr.  He attended country school and graduated from Shubert High School with the class of 1953.  After graduating, Virgil continued his education by attending college for two years.  In October of 1958, Vigil enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until being honorably discharged from Fort Hamilton, New York in October of 1960.  He returned to Nebraska living in Omaha where he was employed as a safety officer for Nationwide Transportation.  Virgil was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion, V.F.W. and Legion member in South Omaha and a member of the Eagles club.  On September 19, 1987, Virgil was united in marriage to Barbara Stein in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  After living in Omaha for over 35 years, Virgil moved to Nemaha where he has farmed since 2004.  He enjoyed camping, farming, and traveling with the fifth wheel.  Virgil also became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn. 

Virgil passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Auburn, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of 81 years, seven months, and five days.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son Burl Kehr, and brothers Raymond and Richard Kehr.

Virgil is survived by his loving wife Barbara Kehr of Nemaha, NE; son David Kehr and his wife Tonia of Elkhorn, NE; step-children: Angela (Rod) Moser of Monroe, IA; Mary Ann (Matt) Sarver of Albia, IA; Michael (Heather) Flahive of Albia, IA; 10 grandchildren; mother-in-law Vivan Stein of Newton, IA; sisters-in-law: Charlotte Kehr of Ralston, NE; Mary Susan Crook of Newton, IA; brothers-in-law: Terry (Barb) Stein of South Carolina; Dick (Alice) Stein of San Francisco, CA; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at The Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, Nebraska with Pastor Ken Miller officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017, at The Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

Inurnment will be at the Sheridan Cemetery in Auburn at a later date.
