Obituary
Amelia L. (Millie) Adcock was born in Nemaha County, Nebraska, near the town of Brock, on April 17, 1911. She was the fourth of seven children born to August V. and Matilda (Sandoz) Lamblet. She died on December 26, 2005 at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 9 days. Amelia spent most of her childhood on the family farm north of Brock. She graduated from Brock High School in 1929. Amelia was baptized in the Brock Methodist Church and was a life long member of that congregation.
Amelia was married to Harold Edwin Adcock of Brock, Nebraska, on June 25, 1931. They had over 72 happy and rewarding years together until Harold’s death in 2004. Two children were born to this union, a daughter, Virginia Adcock Brice, who died in 1979, and a son, Gerald L. Adcock. She is survived by her son, Gerald L. Adcock, and wife Carolyn, of Omaha, NE, her sister Madeline (Lambelet) Erisman of Auburn, NE and brother, Woodrow Lambelet and wife Carol of Grand Island, NE and sister-in-law Hilda Adcock of Farragut, IA. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Lesli Brice, Scott Brice and Jennifer (Brice) Simon all of Omaha, NE; Rebecca (Brice) Swan of Sarasota, FL; Diane (Adcock) Lammert of Ft. Wayne, IN and Harold Lee Adcock of Ames, IA and three great-grandchildren. Amelia was a farm wife for most of her life. She and her family moved from the Brock area in the mid-30’s to Waterloo, Nebraska, and they later rented farms near Winnebago and Bancroft, Nebraska, before purchasing a farm near Bancroft. At that time farming was done with horses and a farm wife was busy cooking for threshers, canning fruits and vegetables, and raising chickens. All of this was done without electricity or indoor plumbing. Amelia was good with figures and kept the farm account books and prepared income tax returns. In 1952 Harold and Amelia sold their farm near Bancroft and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they lived for two years. Amelia secured a position at Golds Department Store as a credit interviewer, approving applications for installment credit. She enjoyed this position immensely. In 1955, Amelia and Harold purchased their farm north of Brock from Amelia’s mother, Matilda Lambelet, and they lived there until 2004 when they moved to Auburn. Amelia took great pride in the farm and was responsible for planning the flower beds, ornamental tree plantings, white board fences and extensive lawn.
Amelia was a caring Mother and Grandmother. She had a wonderful way with children and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren clamored to come down to the farm to stay overnight or over the weekend. They enjoyed the attention and the chance to help make bread, pick strawberries or listen to Grandma’s stories. She had great faith and told her children and grandchildren about Jesus. Amelia enjoyed interior decorating. She had an eye for color and its combinations and she enjoyed remodeling and updating her farm home. Amelia and her husband enjoyed traveling and took vacation trips over a wide area of the United States and Canada. Amelia was a successful businesswoman, subscribed to the Wall Street Journal until her eyesight made her unable to see the quotes, and doing her own investing. She had great capacity for giving care and encouragement to others in time of need or distress. She had a positive outlook and a willingness to plan and work to achieve her goals.
Preceding Amelia in death were her parents, her husband, Harold; daughter Virginia; great-granddaughter Lindsey Amelia Swan; sister Eloise (Lambelet) Clark; and brothers Alcide, Edmund and Victor.
