Barbara Crabtree Obituary

Barbara Ann (Campbell) Crabtree, 70, of Topeka, KS, passed away October 2, 2013 at Rossville, KS from cancer.  She was born on June 9, 1943 at Reserve, KS to Marvin (Punk), Sr. and Mildred (Dannecker) Campbell.
She was united in marriage to Ron Kirkendall in 1961. To this union two children were born, Todd and Michelle.   She later was united in marriage to Jackson Newby and had a daughter Jaclyn Newby.  She married J.R. Crabtree on June 25, 1994.

Barbara was raised in the country near White Cloud, KS and in Reserve, KS. She graduated from Reserve High School in 1961 together with her best friend Mary (Sumpter) Duncan of Hiawatha, KS. Barbara lived in Falls City, NE, Bartlesville, OK, Prairie Village, KS, Iola, KS, Independence, KS, and Kansas City, MO, before settling in Topeka, KS.

She worked for KTNC radio in Falls City, NE and later at the KUDL/KMBZ radio station in Kansas City as the Traffic Manager.

She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making food for family and friends whether it was cinnamon rolls, sugar cookies, smoked turkey or ribs. Family gatherings were important to her and she loved getting together for the holidays. She enjoyed reading, embroidery and playing solitaire with her mom Mildred’s worn deck of cards.

She was preceded in death by her father Marvin, mother Mildred, second husband Jack Newby and her daughter Michelle (Kirkendall) Peterson.

She is survived by her husband J.R. Crabtree of Topeka, KS; son Todd (Suzy) Kirkendall of Warrensburg, MO; daughter Jaclyn Newby of Topeka, KS and son-in-law Larry Peterson of Chandler, AZ.; step children Todd (Debbie) Crabtree of Blue Springs, MO, Trent Crabtree of Plattsburg, MO, and Tisha Crabtree of Excelsior Springs, MO; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Nayvi) Kirkendall, Andrea Kirkendall, Amanda and Matthew Peterson, Jordan and Peyton Newby, Sierra Johnson and Aliyah Shaefer, four step-grandchildren, Taylor and Kaitlen Crabtree and Cody and Hailey Stanfill, brothers Marvin "Sonny" (Pat) Campbell of Falls City, NE;  John Campbell of Hiawatha, KS; Doug Campbell of Colorado; and sisters Linda Vogele of Falls City, NE; and Debbie (Chad) Gray of Springfield, MO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

We love and miss you and know everything is "fantastic!"

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 26, at 1 P.M. at the George Ogden building in White Cloud, KS. No other services are planned. The family requests that memorials be given to breastcancer.org.

No visitation or viewing is scheduled.
