Betty Jean (Duerfeldt) Hersh, 88, of Falls City, Nebraska was born on November 27, 1928, in rural Verdon, Nebraska to Albert and Alta (Nichols) Duerfeldt. She was raised near Verdon where she attended country school and later graduated from Verdon High School. As a young girl, Betty was very artistic and enjoyed drawing, painting, and oil painting. On March 10, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Billy Hersh. To this union three daughters, Carol, Donna, and Billie were born. Betty was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed flowers, watching and feeding birds, crocheting, painting, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Falls City.
Betty passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at the Falls City Care Center in Falls City, Nebraska having reached the age of eighty-eight years, seven months, and eight days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Billy, grandson Trea Lundy, a sister Mary (Harold) Fischer, and a brother DeWayne (Joan) Duerfeldt.
Betty is survived by her daughters: Carol (Jim) King of Omaha, NE; Donna (John) Simpson of Falls City, NE; Billie Mackey of Dawson, NE; 11 grandchildren: 22 great-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Steele Cemetery in Falls City, Nebraska with Pastor Andrew Chavanak officiating.
Family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at The Hall Funeral Chapel in Falls City, Nebraska.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the family’s choice with a later designation.
