Betty Lou Portrey

Betty Lou Portrey, 82, of Falls City was born on June 20, 1942, near Preston, Nebraska to David John and Margaret E. (Warren) Portrey.  She attended District #99 country school and graduated from Reserve High School in Reserve, Kansas with the class of 1960. Betty was a homemaker, dedicating most of her life to her children and family.  She was member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge #963, and Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. #1765.  Betty passed away on Friday, March 29, 2025, at her home in Falls City having reached the earthly age of eighty-two years, nine months, and eight days.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 6 brothers, and grandson Tanner Merz, and granddaughter Amanda.

Betty is survived by her children: Sherry Bennett and husband Dennis of Gretna, NE; Angie Moore of Hemet, CA; Marc Merz and wife Sally of Falls City, David Merz and wife Lori of Kissimmee, FL; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; her sister Patsy Mandery of Greenwood, NE; and many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Post #102 American Legion Club, 721 Harlan Street in Falls City.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
