Bonnie Carlile Obituary

Bonnie R. Carlile, age 79 of Auburn, NE, passed away Saturday, June 20, at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. A memorial service for Bonnie Carlile is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn. Rev. John Henderson officiating, Burial will be at the Glasco Cemetery in Glasco, KS at a later date.

No viewing, visitation will be Friday, June 26 at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn with family greeting friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.


OBITUARY
Bonnie Ruth Rutz daughter of John Rutz and Edna (Clark) Rutz was born on October 5, 1935 in Verdon, NE. She was the only child born to this union.

She was raised in Richardson County and was a graduate of Peru State College. She earned her Masters Degree from UNL in the field of Education.

Bonnie taught at Red Oak, IA, Plattsmouth, Peru State College, and Maryville University in Maryville, MO.

In 1973 Bonnie was named an Outstanding Educator of America.

In 2013 Bonnie received a Meritorious Service Award and was inducted into Peru State College Athletic Hall of Fame.  She started intercollegiate athletics for women at Peru State College and coached the volleyball team. She started the women’s basketball and softball programs. In addition, Bonnie organized and started a group of referees with money from concessions to work area high school volleyball games. She organized the annual volleyball tournament held at PSC and expanded on it. The tournament reached 40 teams by the 25th year and it was the longest-running high school tournament in Nebraska at the time.

She was united in marriage to Donald K. Carlile in August of 1973.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Auburn, NE. In 2009 she moved to Longs Creek Assisted Living in Auburn, and to Good Samaritan in recent years. On Saturday June 20, 2015 Bonnie passed away at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Edna Rutz of Dawson, NE; her husband Donald Carlile, and one sister-in-law
Pat Dalrymple.

She is survived by nieces, Ruth Torbert of Opelika, AL; Lana Cullen of Cave Creek, AZ; many cousins, and friends.
