Charles Cox Obituary

Charles H. Cox, formerly of Johnson, NE, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis, SD. A funeral service for Charles H. Cox will be held Saturday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Johnson, NE. Burial will follow at the Johnson Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Army National Guard Honor Guard and by Bender-Reese American Legion Post #330 of Johnson, NE.

Visitation will be Friday, April 25, from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hall Mortuary in Johnson. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.



Obit:

Charles Harold Cox son of Clarence Ernest Cox and Margaret Louise (Carroll) Cox was born on June 18, 1917 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. He was one of eight children born to this union.

Charlie received his early education in a country school in Morgan County Colorado. Charlie moved with his family in a covered wagon to Kansas for a short time before returning to Colorado.

As a teenager he moved to Montana where he lived with his Aunt and Uncle, Emma and Frank Cox. While living in Montana, he attended Bozeman Agriculture School where he learned how to pursue his dream of farming.

When WWII broke out, Charlie saw it as his patriotic duty to join up, enlisting in the Army Air Corp on January 7, 1942. After returning from the war, he got reacquainted with Mildred Snowden and they were married October 27, 1945. To this marriage three children were born. Most of their married life was spent in the Johnson, Nebraska area.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, seven siblings, one half brother and one half sister. He is survived by his children, Lavon Huneke and husband Leonard of Rapid City, SD; Linda Hopper and husband Darrell of Nemaha, NE; and Leland Cox and wife Gayla of North Platte, NE; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, three half brothers Dean, Bob, and Jerry Cox, one half sister Patti Painter, one brother-in-law Wayne Snowden of New Castle, CO; special friend Marcille Bohling of Johnson, NE, many nieces, nephews and friends.



Memorial may be given in Charlie's honor to  family's choice and will be donated to the veterans association.
