David Saulsberry Obituary

Floyd David Saulsberry, 65, of Auburn, Nebraska was born on April 2, 1954 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Floyd Jr. and Doris Marie (Cotton) Saulsberry.  He grew up in Yates Center, Kansas and graduated from Yates Center High School with the class of 1972.  While in high school, David participated in football, basketball and track.  After high school, he attended Fort Scott Community College where he played basketball and received his Associates of Arts Degree in 1974.  David then attended Emporia State College receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in 1977.

While in junior college, David was filled with the Holy Spirit and from then on studied the word of God daily while spending a lot of time praying and conversing with his heavenly father. His passionate relationship with his Savior would drive him to reach people for the gospel until his last days. David began teaching history and social studies at Oskaloosa High School after receiving his degree.

On June 16, 1979, David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Christie Johnson at the United Methodist Church in Berryton, Kansas.  To this union three children, John, Luke and Beth were born.

David moved to Auburn, NE in 1982 where he desired to further God’s kingdom as the Assistant Pastor at New Life Church. David, an athlete while in high school, also began coaching multiple sports which he would continue to do in Auburn, NE and Hiawatha, KS.

David and family moved to Horton, KS where David continued to coach as well as started Faith Christian Fellowship of Hiawatha as Pastor. He continued to teach, coach and fulfill the call of God as Pastor after to moving to Hiawatha, KS. David enjoyed entertaining people through his vivid storytelling, quick wit and other ornery avenues.

He was a great example of a Christian, husband and father to his family and friends. David was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015. David's family would like to thank Ben Rice, for the wonderful time, attention and care he provided to David during the last year of his life. Ben's dedication to care for David is so greatly appreciated.

David went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 8, 2020, passing away at Bryan LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of sixty-five years, ten months and six days. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Kenna Estes.
