Delphine Hayes Obituary


Delphine Hayes, age 89, passed away Monday, August 1, 2005 at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, NE. A funeral service will be held Friday, August 5th at 10:30 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn. Interment will be at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Brownville, NE.


Friends and family can sign the register book on Thursday, August 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel. There will be no viewing.


OBITUARY


Delphine Keller Hayes, daughter of Frank and Minnie Oliver Keller was born December 23, 1915 on a farm near White Cloud, Kansas. She was one of 12 children.


She received her elementary and high school education at the White Cloud, Kansas Public Schools. On November 29, 19355, she was united in marriage to Thomas Hayes at Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union five children were born. Tom and Delphine made their home in White Cloud for 10 years. In 1945 Tom and Delphine moved to Brownville, Nebraska.


Delphine was a cook at the Brownville House restaurant from 1967 – 1972. Delphine enjoyed working in her flower garden, watching the birds and doing daily hobbies and crosswords. Over the years she hand quilted and gave many of her quilts as gifts to her family and grandchildren. Delphine loved fishing and took her grandchildren countless times. She spent countless hours cooking, canning and making jellies, jams and candy. She was famous for her divinity. Over her lifetime, Delphine collected over 2,500 sets of salt and pepper shakers from the 50 states, Canada and Europe. One of her favorite television programs was Lawrence Welk. But most important in her life was her family and friends.


She was admitted to the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn, NE on June 5, 2002. She was then admitted to the Nemaha County Hospital on July 30, 2005. It was there that she passed way on August 1, 2005 having reached the age of 89 years, 7 months and 8 days.


She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Those left to mourn her passing are her children Mrs. Edwin (Phyllis) Myers of Auburn, NE, Mrs, Sherry Warrick of Omaha, NE, Mrs. Paul (Kay) Fish of Brownville, NE, Mrs. John (Tommie Lou) Solie of Stillwater, OK and Mr. Martin Hayes and wife Allison of Brownville, NE; 2 brothers Dale Keller of Vancouver, WA and Francis and wife Sonny Keller of Brainard, MN; 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
