Don (Jiggs) Mullins Obituary
Don (Jiggs) Mullins, age 83 of Salem, NE passed away Wednesday, April 22, at his home in Salem. There will be no viewing, a visitation will be held Saturday, April 25, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home at 2403 Harlan, Falls City, NE.
A graveside memorial service at the Maple Cemetery in Salem will be held Saturday, August 8, at 4 p.m.
Family request in lieu of flowers memorials be given to family choice.
Obituary
Don (Jiggs) Edward Mullins son of Clyde E. Mullins and Opal S. (Brown) Mullins was born on November 30, 1931 in Stella, NE. He was one of eight children born to this union.
He was raised around Salem and in 1949 he graduated from Salem High School. In May of 1949 Don enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. After being discharged from the Coast Guard in 1951 he attended one year at Peru State College.
On March 23, 1958 he was united in marriage to Ruth Frederick in Salem, NE. To this marriage one son was born.
Don worked different jobs throughout his life including, owning and operating Mullins Bar and Café (Big Red Inn) in Salem, Falls City Meat Co., Elliott Meat Co., retiring from Rolfes Manufacturing in 1996.
His real love was fishing, hunting and teaching youth how to fish and hunt and enjoy nature and the outdoors. Don was also an avid Nebraska Husker fan.
Don fell ill in the last year, and on Wednesday April 22, he passed away at his home near Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Bob and Bill, and one sister Naomi.
He is survived by his wife Ruth of Salem, NE; son Keith Mullins and wife Donna of South Duxbury, Vermont; three grandsons Jeremy, Nathan, and Troy Mullins; brother Jerry (Evelyn) Mullins of Ames, IA; sisters Phyllis Davis of Jacksonville, FL; Karen Kanatzar of Kingman, AZ and Dixie Trusty of Kingman, AZ; close family friends Lonnie and Kim Goff and their family, other relatives and friends.
Services for Don Mullins are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home of Falls City.
