Eleanor Edith Kelley, daughter of Hiram Bostic and Mary Jane (Thomas) Kelley, was born April 16, 1908 at Brownville, Nebraska. She was one of five children born to this marriage.
Eleanor received her education at the Brownville Public Schools. At the age of twelve, she was baptized at the Brownville Christian Church. On June 14, 1925 she was married to Homer F. Osborne at her family home in Brownville and two children were born to this marriage.
Homer and Eleanor farmed for eleven years north of Brownville and then they moved and farmed two years east of Glenrock before they returned to the original Osborne family farm north of Brownville to farm for two more years. In 1941 they moved into town in Brownville to live while Homer worked for the Corps of Engineers on the Missouri River.
During World War II Homer and Eleanor both worked at the Ordinance Plant at Mead, Nebraska. Eleanor worked on an assembly line puddling bombs with liquid TNT and Homer drove a truck to transport the bombs.
Later, they moved to Auburn and Homer drove a transport truck and Eleanor became a homemaker. It was at this time that they transferred their church membership to the Auburn Christian Church. She belonged to the Gleaners Circle and taught Sunday School. A few years later Homer became the Manager and Eleanor the Bookkeeper of the Farmers Co-op in Auburn. Years after that, Homer started a construction business and Eleanor was a partner and bookkeeper. Together they built several homes in west Auburn until their retirement. While her grandson, Rev. Tom Osborne, was minister of the Brownville Christian Church she transferred her membership back to the Brownville Christian Church.
Eleanor entered the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn on July 17, 2001 and it was there that she passed away on November 3, 2004 having reached the age of 96 years, 6 months and 17 days. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, one son, and one granddaughter.
Those left to mourn her passing are her sister Esther Osborne of Brownville; her son Willis Osborne of Auburn, and daughter-in-law Sharyl Osborne of Crescent, Iowa. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; cousins and many friends.
