Esther graduated from Auburn Senior High School in 1943 and then went on to attend Peru State Teachers College. On June 18, 1950 Esther was united in marriage to Raymond Gebers at the Presbyterian Church in Auburn. Together they raised one daughter, Ramona. They had been married for 55 years on their 2005 anniversary.

She then taught two years at “Rohrs” District 80, two years at “Center” District 76 and eight years at Cochran District 6. She then taught at Antioch Elementary School for one year. Esther also worked part time in the Nemaha County Treasurer’s office for eight years. After her retirement she remained busy as a substitute teacher and volunteer mentor for the ABE class. She was also a member of the Auburn Women’s Club and the Golden Rule Extension Club. Esther and Raymond were members of several square dance clubs and especially enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO, which was Esther’s favorite destination. Esther also enjoyed assisting with her husband’s business, visiting with former students of which she was very proud and attending her grandson’s activities as long as her health permitted.
Esther had suffered deteriorating health for several years and entered Nemaha County Hospital on September 21, 2005 and was transferred to the Good Samaritan Center on September 27, 2005.
