Gary Whitney, age 73, of Humboldt, NE. Passed away Tuesday, February 16, at the Good Samaritan Society of Nemaha County in Auburn. A funeral service for Gary Whitney will be held Saturday, February 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, NE. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service with Burial at 2:00 p.m. at the Humboldt Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

OBITUARY:
Gary Lee Whitney, age 73 years, 8 months, 18 days, passed away on February 17, 2010, at the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Home in Auburn, NE, after an extensive eight-year battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Gary was born on May 29, 1936, at Pawnee City, NE. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1954. He then served in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Germany for two years. After serving his country, he began farming with his father. He married Elta Kracke on June 5, 1959, and continued to farm through his retirement with his brother until his death.
Gary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, NE. He enjoyed serving on the prison ministry, attending farm sales, and spent a lot of time visiting people afflicted with terminal illnesses. He was devoted to his family, loved to see his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time tending to his cattle herd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard & Mabel (Glathar) Whitney. He is survived by his wife, Elta (Kracke) Whitney; two sons, Byron (Lori) Whitney and Todd (Dora) Whitney; one daughter, Sheila (Randy) Boden; five grandchildren, Megan Whitney, Larissa Whitney, Logan Whitney, Bryce Boden, and Lauren Boden; one brother, David Whitney; one sister, Jan (Lyle) Larsen; other family; and friends.
