Jack Longfellow Obituary

Jack Longfellow, age 86, of Peru, NE, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn. A funeral for Jack is scheduled for Saturday, December 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow the service at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Peru, NE.

Graveside Military Honors provided by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard. 

Visitation is scheduled for Friday December 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 at the funeral home.

 

Obit:

Jack Longfellow was born in Green Forest, Arkansas on March 1, 1928 to His Parents, Ernest A. Longfellow and Granville David (Norris) Longfellow.

Jack attended High School at Peru Prep in Peru, NE.

On June 7, 1945 Jack was drafted into the United Navy in which he served 8 years. Jack achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After this, Jack served another 4 years in the Coast Guard Reserve.

Jack was united in marriage to Camilla B. (Stocktill) on November 29, 1952.

Jack graduated from Elon College in Elon, North Carolina with a B.S. in electrical engineering. Jack went on to earn a Masters degree from Leigh University in 1966 in metallurgic engineering.

Jack was employed by the Western Electric Company from 1953 to 1984. Jack was involved in research and development contributed on research with lasers and fiber optics. Jack received numerous honors and was a published author in many technical writings.

Jack retired and moved back to Peru, NE in 1984. Jack and his wife Camilla were involved in numerous clubs such as the Peru Historical Society and Quercus Club.

Jack was preceded in death by his father Ernest A. Longfellow, his mother Grandville David (Judy) Longfellow, His wife Camilla B. (Stocktill) Longfellow, and his brother David Longfellow.

Jack is survived by his brother Stanley Longfellow and his wife Gaye of Kearney, NE his sister in law, Shirley Longfellow of El Dorado, KS. His daughter, Ellen (Longfellow) Davis and husband Scott Davis of Morrisville, PA; his son John Thomas Longfellow and Delynne Longfellow of Ulysses, KS; his son Jeffery D. Longfellow and Anna Longfellow of Auburn, NE; his son Charles E. Longfellow and Kimi Longfellow of Wendall, NC. Jack is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, nephews other relatives and friends.
