James Lunsford Obituary


James Jean Lunsford, son of James Elmer and Matilda (Mackey) Lunsford was born on July 27, 1935 in Falls City, NE. There were nine children born to this union.


Jim grew up in Falls City and graduated from the Falls City Public Schools in 1955. He then enlisted in the United States Navy on June 3, 1958 and served during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the USS Lester from 1963 to 1964 and then served with the United States Marine Corps from 1968 - 1970. After a dedicated career with our country Jim was honorably discharged on August 29, 1975. Jim founded the local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #455 in Rulo.


Jim married Lois Adams on December 18, 1958 in Rigley, Idaho. Together they raised five boys, James, Jeffrey, Joel, Jason and John.


Jim and Lois made their home in Rulo where they managed the Camp Rulo Restaurant. Jim enjoyed spending his time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His hobbies included cars, hunting, watching the Discovery channel and telling stories.


Due to sudden illness Jim passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha on May 28, 2004. He had reached the age of 68 years 10 months and 1 day. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jackie Lunsford.


Jim is survived by his wife Lois Lunsford of Rulo; children James Elmer Lunsford of Rulo, Jeffrey Robert Lunsford and wife Tammy of Jefferson City, MO, Joel Thomas Lunsford and wife Nancy of Falls City, Jason Adam Lunsford and wife Becky of Falls City and John David Lunsford and wife Brenda of Falls City. Sisters Ann Owen and husband Gary of Cumberton, NE, Loretta Kentopp of Falls City, Colleen Clancy and husband Dan of Falls City, Beverly Sied and husband Francis of Falls City and Sally Palmer and husband Brian of Falls City. Brothers Jerry Lunsford and wife Charlotte of Okoboji, IA and Tommy Lunsford and wife Mary of Falls City, 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
