Lavina (Thomas) Eckley

Lavina (Thomas) Eckley, 87, of Brownville, Nebraska passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at her home in Brownville.  She had returned to her hometown of Brownville with her husband and youngest daughter Jane in 1996 after having lived in Colorado for nearly 30 years.  Lavina had received a Valedictorian scholarship into Peru College upon her graduation in 1950.  She attended college for 2 years and received her teaching degree.  Lavina then went on to teach at Shubert, Nebraska as well as working at the Auburn Sewing Factory.  She met and married her husband Robert Eckley of Tekamah, Nebraska in 1953.  The couple moved to St. Joseph, Missouri and in 1957 has their first child Sherry Kay, then Edward in 1958 and Jane in 1960.  Lavina treated everyone she met as family and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.  Lavina is preceded in death by her parents John and Thelma Thomas and husband Robert.

She is survived by her children: Sherry Caffero of Thornton, CO; Edward Eckley of Golden, CO; Jane Eckley of Brownville, NE; granddaughter Christie Caffero of Idaho, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a brother Eldon Thomas and wife of Sydney, NE; sisters: Edith Draper of Humboldt, NE; Mary Winterhoff of Missouri and other various nephews, nieces and cousins.

Private Family Services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family with a later designation.
