Lawrence Lane Obituary

Lawrence Lane, son of Mary E. Jenkins and Joseph W. Lane was born on May 15, 1917 in Tennessee. There were six children born to this union. Larry moved with his family to Blue Springs, NE when he was an infant. He graduated from Blue Spring High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics.

Lane enlisted in the United States Army on August 1, 1945 in Fort Levenworth, KSl He served during World War II and spent time in the Europen theater in the finace department of the Army.

Lane began his banking experience with Blue Springs Bank in 1935 and then moved to Omaha where he was with the Douglas County Bank. He also served a stint with the Northern Natural Gas Company in Omaha.

In 1941, Lane moved to California where he was associated with the Bank of America. He served three years with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as an assistant bank examiner. Larry also worked for U.S. National Bank of Portland and as a cashier for the Peoples Bank of Oregon in Beaverton. While in Beaverton, he was a charter member and later served as treasurer of the Beaverton Rotary Club. He was also treasurer and active in the American Field Service program in Beaverton for two and one half years. Lane was active in the National Association of Bank Auditors and Comptrollers.

Lane was named cashier of the First National Bank of York, Nebraska in 1960. From York, he served banks in Peru and Nehawka, Nebraska until his retirement in May 1989 at the age of 72. He made his home in Peru, NE at that time.

Lane entered the Beverly Health Care Facility in Nebraska City and it was there that he passed away having reached the age of 87 years and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ira Lane and Curtis Lane and one sister Oma Rutherford.

Those left to mourn his passing are his beloved companion Ruth Simpson of Peru, NE; daughters Mari Lane Gewecke and husband John of Lincoln, NE and Judy Taylor and husband Marlyn of Cornville, AZ; brother Robert Lane and wife Joyce of Boring, OR; sister Milly Lloyd and husband Elmo of Wymore, NE and sister-in-law Mrs. Lorine Lane of Wymore, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
