Leonard Duaine McKnight, age 78, of Lincoln, NE, passed away Thursday, February 12, at The Ambassador in Lincoln, NE. A memorial service for Duaine McKnight will be Wednesday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, NE. A luncheon will follow the service in Peru, NE. Burial of ashes at Mt. Vernon Cemetery at a later date.
No viewing or visitation is scheduled.
Obituary:
Leonard Duaine McKnight son of Henry McKnight and Anna Leta (Ashcraft) McKnight was born on August 6, 1936 in Peru, NE. He was the only child born to this union.
Duaine attended school in Peru and graduated from Peru Prep High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged in 1960. He then attended three years at Peru State College.
He was united in marriage to Susan Crooker in 1962 at the Christian Church in Auburn. Together they had two daughters. In 1981 he was united in marriage to June Boehmer at Rockport, MO. They were married until 2007.
Duaine worked in several different occupations he farmed, worked in the food service, and was a Lincoln bus driver.
Since the fall of 2013, Duaine lived at Windcrest Assisted Living in Lincoln. Due to illness he entered The Ambassador Nursing Facility and it is there that on Thursday, February 12, 2015 Duaine passed away. He had reached the age of 78 years, 6 months, and 6 days. His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Lynne Herr and husband Kevin of Lincoln, NE and Heather McKinney and husband Jamie of Beatrice, NE; grandchildren, Olivia Herr, Eric Herr, Scott McKinney, Tiffany McKinney, Cody McKinney and Hali McKinney, other relatives and friends.
