M. DeVee Comstock

Mrs. Jerry (DeVee) Comstock, age 74, of Ashland, NE passed away, Wednesday, September 21, 2005. Funeral Services for DeVee Comstock will be held Saturday, September 24, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, NE. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Peru, NE.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, NE.

OBITUARY

M. DeVee (“Dee”) Comstock, daughter of Gerald and Elva Reber, was born on January 22, 1931 in Elmwood, NE. The family farmed in Elmwood and later in Alvo, where Dee was raised with her sister and brother, Shirley and Gerald, Jr.

Dee attended school and graduated from Alvo Public Schools in Alvo, Nebraska. She then went on to attend Peru State College, receiving her teaching certificate. Dee taught elementary school for several years in her home town of Alvo.

Dee was united in marriage to Jerry Comstock on December 19, 1953 at the Alvo Methodist Church in Alvo, Nebraska. The couple then moved to Topeka, Kansas where Dee taught in the Topeka Schools. There was a teacher shortage at the time and amazingly Dee taught a class of 220 Kindergarteners, which was divided in sections of 55 students who came on alternating mornings and afternoons. Dee knew all of the names of the children within two weeks and finished out the year splendidly. The school administration wanted her to stay the following year, however as Jerry had completed his four-year term in the Air Force, the couple returned to Peru, Nebraska to complete their educations.

The couple moved to Ralston, Nebraska in 1962, where their daughters Traci and Heidi were later born. The family moved to an acreage in Ashland, Nebraska in 1974, where Jerry and Dee have remained for the past 31 years.

Dee excelled at being a wife and mother. She remained in her heart a teacher and loved being around children. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles and everything associated with family. She was proud of the horses that she and Jerry raised, and loved her dogs. She adored her grandchildren and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Dee had been in failing health the last couple of years. She remained in her home, with her husband, until she passed away on September 21, 2005 having reached the age of 74 years, 7 months and 29 days.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband Jerry of Ashland, NE; daughters Traci Comstock and husband Kyle Heyen of Council Bluffs, IA and Heidi and husband Jon Michalski of Gretna, NE; granddaughters Emma Heyen and Kayla Michalski; her good friends Marianne and Fred Applegate of Louisville, Nebraska; her siblings, sisters and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
