Marie M. Rohrs, age 88, of Johnson, NE passed away, Friday, October 7, 2005 at the Belle Terrace Nursing Home in Tecumseh, NE; A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church near Auburn.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 9, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Monday October 10, 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Hall Mortuary in Johnson, NE.
Marie is survived by her daughters Ruth Ann Holben of Techumseh, NE and Maxine Watteyne of Tecumseh, NE; sisters Sophie Hitzeman of Tecumseh, NE; Dora Rieken of Tecumseh, NE; brother Arnold Dunekacke and wife Imogene of Johnson, NE; sister-in-laws Hazel Dunekacke and Laura Dunekacke; 3 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

OBITUARY
Marie Magdalene Rohrs, daughter of Diedrich and Sophia Dunekacke, was born near Asendorf, Germany on January 4, 1917. She was one of seven children born to this marriage.
Marie was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Asendorf, Germany. At age six, she and her family came to the United States. She was confirmed on May 24, 1931 at the Zion Lutheran Church near Johnson, NE. Her memory verse was Romans 8:28 “We know that all things work together for good to them that love God”. She attended Washington and Dewey rural schools receiving many spelling and penmanship awards, and graduating after the eighth grade. She worked on the family farm and in the Johnson and Auburn communities before her marriage.
January 27, 1938 she was married to Otto G. Rohrs at the Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. R.H. Riensche. Since marriage she lived over 65 years in the same home on their farm outside of Johnson, NE. Two daughters were born to this marriage.
Marie was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. For many years she was Otto’s right hand help on the farm. She joined the St. Paul (Hickory Grove) Lutheran Church right after marriage and has been a member ever since. She was active in the Women’s Circle helping many times in early years with Martin Luther Home activities and also later with quilting and serving at church functions. She was a 4-H leader for several years.
Marie had been failing in health the last year and a half. Currently she was a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh. It was there that she passed away, having reached the age of 88 years, 9 months and 3 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Otto G. Rohrs who passed away on August 24, 1981; two brothers Fred and Henry Dunekacke; one sister and brother-in-law Anna and Dean Philpott; three brothers-in-law Ernest Hitzeman, Gieko Rieken and Adolph Rohrs; two grandchildren Rick Lee and Debbie Sue Watteyne; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Edna and Dick Gerdes, Lila and Ben Wiebke; and father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Martha Rohrs.
Those left to mourn her passing are her daughters Maxine Watteyne and Ruth Holben both of Tecumseh; three grandchildren, Bob Watteyne and wife Lisa of Logan, Utah; Kay Marie and husband C. Scott Kay of Colorado Springs, CO and Darin Holben of Johnson, NE; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua, Samantha, Benjamin, Isaac, Addison, Bailey and Annelise Watteyne of Logan, Utah and Brandon and Taylor Kay of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters Sophia Hitzeman and Dora Rieken of Tecumseh, one brother Arnold Dunekacke and wife Imogene of Johnson, NE; two sister-in-laws Hazel Dunekacke of Johnson, NE and Laura Dunekacke of Tecumseh, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
