Marylin K. Mertes

Marylin Kay Mertes daughter of Peter D. Mertes and Mary Alice (Parriott) Mertes was born on December 16, 1939 in Peru, Nebraska. She was one of three children born to this union.

She was raised in the Honey Creek area, Marylin went thru school at Peru Prep and attended one year at Peru State College. She was united in marriage to Ernest (Sonny) Potter in 1961 in Sidney, IA. Three sons were born to this marriage.

Marylin worked at the Danny Dare Sewing Factory and later moved to Texas where she managed a Pizza Hut for many years. She also worked at the Casey’s General Store once returning to Peru.

She was active with the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Auxiliary and helped the ladies prepare and serve many luncheons for funerals and other community functions. She is most remembered for her grace and mercy for everyone and her love and devotion to her children, family and her beloved dog Penny.

Due to ongoing illness Marylin entered Good Samaritan Society in Auburn and it is there that on Saturday May 7, 2016 Marylin passed away suddenly. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Don Mertes.

She is survived by her children, Darrell (Frances) Potter of Cheyenne, OK; John (Nicky) Potter of Catoosa, OK; Tim (Chris) Potter of Nebraska City, NE; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, brother Larry (Shirley) Mertes of Windsor, CO; other relatives and friends.

A graveside memorial service for Marylin Mertes age 76, of Peru, NE will be held Saturday, June 4, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Peru, NE followed by a luncheon at Peru City Hall.

No visitation is scheduled.
