Orville “Leroy” Humphrey, Jr., 86, of Overland Park, Kansas was born on November 5, 1933, in Brownville, Nebraska to Orville Leroy and Margery Marie (Kelley) Humphrey. He graduated from North High School in Omaha with the class of 1951. After graduation Leroy served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea.
On April 12, 1958, Leroy was united in marriage to Bobbie Jean Austin at the First Christian Church in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union three children, Dan, Sheri and Cindy were born. The couple lived and raised their family in Omaha.
Leroy had various careers and worked for Burlington Railroad, Western Electric, Valmont and during the last chapter of his working life he was a business owner of several Schlotzsky’s. Leroy loved fishing, boating, camping and his motor homes. He was always the life of the party and told jokes everywhere he went. Leroy loved cheering on his Nebraska Cornhuskers and above everything, he loved his family. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Leroy passed away from natural causes on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at his home in Rose Estates Assisted Living Center in Overland Park, Kansas having reached the earthly age of 86 years, 6 months and 2 days. Leroy will be laid to rest alongside his wife, who he loved to call his sweet West Virginia rose, Bobbie Jean.
Leroy is survived by his children: Dan Humphrey of Florida; Sheri (Jeff) McMahon of Leawood, KS; Cindy (Aaron) Parrott of Lenexa, KS; grandchildren: Chris, Katie, Anna and Heather Humphrey, Ashley and Alexis Parrott, and Delaney McMahon; sisters: Helyne Crawford of Omaha, NE; Babs Lovercheck of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in law Shirley Humphrey of Omaha, NE; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of nearly 59 years Bobbie Jean, brother Kenneth Humphrey, brothers-in-law: George Lovercheck, Russ Crawford, Norman Witten, Charles Austin; and sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Poro, Isabelle Austin, and Myla Witten.
Graveside Interment Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Brownville, Nebraska with Pastor Terry Weible officiating.
