Paul Leon Last

Paul L. Last, age 68 of Shubert, NE, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Falls City Community Medical Center in Falls City, NE. A memorial service will be held for Paul Last on October 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Barada, NE.

Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11 at the United Methodist Church in Barada. Dinner will be served.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Richardson Last of Shubert, NE and their three children Lori and her husband Byron Whitney of Harrisburg, SD; David Last and wife Claudia of Belleville, IL and Lana and her husband Tom Bangert of Falls City, NE; 10 grandchildren; brothers Wilbur Last and his wife Irma of Shubert, NE, Dennis Last and his wife Sally of Papillion, NE; Meryln Last and his wife Kathy of Cozad, NE; sister Yolanda and her husband Steve Jelenick of Emory, TX; brother-in-law Joseph Machowski of Winstead, CN; sister-in-law Ann Liberty of Verdon, NE; brother-in-law Bill Richardson and wife Glenda of Alexandria, MN along with 24 nieces and nephews.

PAUL LEON LAST

March 3, 1937 - October 8, 2005

Following a long and gallant fight, Paul Last died on October 8, 2005. He had been sick since August 26, 2004 with complications from three ruptured aneurisms.

Paul Leon Last was born March 3, 1937 in rural Barada, NE. He was the 2nd son of Lena Conover and Albert Last. He walked to the Ankrom rural school near his home. He graduated from Shubert High School in 1956. He served four years in the US Army stationed in Germany. He was also a member of the 134th Nebraska National Guard Unit in Falls City, NE.

Paul married Eleanor Richardson on March 1, 1959 in Verdon, NE. They lived near Verdon until 1989. At that time, they moved to their current home on a farm located ½ mile from his childhood farm home. Paul worked at Cooper Nuclear plant and farmed. In the last several years, he had his own dirt moving business. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and the companionship of his friends and grandchildren. He was always known as “Poppy” to his grandkids and was a wonderful Pop.

Survivors include: His wife, Eleanor Richardson Last, and their 3 children and spouses; daughter Lori and her husband, Byron Whitney of Harrisburg, SD, son David Last and his wife Claudia of Belleville, IL, and daughter Lana and her husband Tom Bangert of Falls City, NE. Ten grandchildren: Crystal Ellis, Julie Ellis, Megan Whitney, Jessica Bangert, Maggie Last, Adam Bangert, Elizabeth Last, Ryan Bangert, Aly Bangert, and Joshua Last. Brothers Wilbur Last & his wife Irma of Shubert, NE, Dennis Last & his wife Sally of Papillion, NE, Meryln Last and his wife Kathy of Cozad, NE, sister Yolanda and her husband Steve Jelenick of Emory, TX, brother-in-law Joseph Machowski of Winstead, CN, sister-in-law Ann Liberty of Verdon, NE, brother-in-law Bill Richardson and wife Glenda of Alexandria, MN along with 24 nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Bob Taft of Verdon, NE, Keith Thomas of Falls City, NE, Glenn Hickey of Union, NE, Jerry Yount of Barada, NE, Jim Inglis of Falls City, NE and Dale Hall of Lincoln, Nebraska.
