Sidney E. Johnson, age 92, of Beatrice, passed away Thursday, June 11, at his home in Beatrice. A funeral service for Sidney E. Johnson will be held Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, NE. burial will follow at the Johnson Cemetery, Johnson, NE, with military graveside honors provided by Air Force Honor Guard.

Obituary
Sidney Eugene Johnson, son of Julius Augustus Johnson and Minnie Ada Applegate, was born on October 31, 1922, at Rohrs Corner in rural Nemaha County, NE, one of six children born to this union.
He was a direct descendant of Julius Andrus Johnson, the original owner of the land where the town of Johnson, NE, was built in 1860. Sid was raised near Johnson and graduated from Auburn High School.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served during WWII. After the war, Sid continued his service to his country, flying for 35 years as an Air Force Reserves navigator, retiring in 1982 at the rank of Major.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Alene Lair on October 7, 1949 in Omaha, NE; four children were born to this union.
In college, he earned a B.S. in Physical Science and an M.A. in Theater and Stage Design. Throughout his life, he taught high school and college Speech, Drama, and English all over the U.S., retiring as a well-respected Professor at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS.
Returning to Nebraska, Sid and Patricia made their home in Beatrice, NE, living there for the past 17 years. At home, surrounded by his family, Sid passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015, having reached the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 11 days. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
He is survived by: wife Patricia A. Johnson of Beatrice, NE; children Sandra K. Stearns of Courtland, KS; Jeffrey A. Johnson of Chillicothe, MO; Marla J. McKee of Hutchinson, KS; James K. Johnson of Omaha, NE; sisters Marial Beck of Broadway, VA; Eleanor Saltar of Milford, DE; 8 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and friends.
