Obituary:

Timothy Earle Myers was born August 2, 1962 in Kearney, NE to Dwain and Linda (Woods) Myers. He grew up in various places around Nebraska as the family followed his Father’s career as a school Administrator or Superintendent. He graduated from South East High School in 1980. Tim started working at the University of Nebraska in 1988, initially as a computer and network operator down in the machine room. While working for the University of Nebraska, he attended classes and in 1994, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. As a student, Tim was on the UNL Programming Team and competed at the National Level. Tim was promoted to System Administrator and did a lot of programming, something he had a real knack for. In 2012, Tim started at CSSS.net working at Offutt Air Force Base and he thoroughly enjoyed this job as a systems administrator.

Tim never did anything in a small way. This included his dedication to his friends and family. Tim always loved spending time with his family and friends. Tim and Shelly met through an online dating site. They started to date and fell in love. On February 19th, 2005, Tim married the love of his life, Shelly Smith.

Tim was very active in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and always looked forward to local, regional and national events. Tim loved being a designer and crafter of many interesting items. A few of these items he created were metal jewelry, ornaments, small looms for himself and other people, and metal items of chainmail both for show and for battle. Tim had a flair for creative and unusual Halloween costumes and he livened up numerous parties with his imaginative designs.

Tim was always very active and has a large collection of T-shirts from various runs, especially the Lincoln Corporate Run. Tim used the University’s Recreation Center frequently to offset his enormous appetite. Tim was an avid fan of the Nebraska Volleyball Team and he usually had a season ticket. He even attended a few of the away games.

Tim was a prankster and jokester. He truly enjoyed a good joke or, more accurately, he loved a bad joke. He especially relished puns, the worse the pun, the better he liked it. He is no doubt starting to build a reputation in heaven.

On November 28th, Tim fell in his home and fractured 2 of the vertebrae in his neck. After getting to Clarkson Hospital, he suffered a stroke. Tim was conscious and responsive in the Intensive Care Unit until late on December 7th. The damage from his stroke proved to be too much. While surrounded by loving and caring family and friends, he was declared legally dead on December 8th. In honor of his wishes and as an extension of his lifelong habit of trying to help other people, Tim’s organs will be used to help numerous other patients waiting for transplants, his kidneys, liver and other tissue, but especially his heart. Tim’s heart may well go on beating for years and years.

Tim is survived by his wife Shelly Smith Myers of Bellevue, NE, mother Linda Myers of Auburn, NE, brothers: Tom of Kansas City and Sam of Texas, mother & father in-law: Jim (Salty) and Roberta Smith of Brownville, NE, aunts and uncles: Karen & James Lemkuhler of Hawaii, David Myers of Lincoln, James Woods of Kearney. brother and sister-in-law: Kelly and Travis Ragan of Brownville, NE, James and Jessica Smith of Peru NE, nieces and nephews and many very close friends.

Tim was preceded in death by his Father Dwain Myers, Grandmother: Marjory Myers, Grandma and Grandpa: Rita and Earle Woods.
