Velma Moffitt, age 92 , of Auburn, NE, passed away Saturday, April 30, at the Nemaha County Good Samaritan Center in Auburn, NE. Funeral services for Velma Moffitt will be held Tuesday, May 3, at 10:00 a.m. the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, NE. Burial will follow at the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland NE. Visitation for Velma Moffitt is scheduled for Monday, May 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, NE.
OBITUARY
Velma Louise Moffitt was born on July 5, 1912 north of Memphis, NE in Saunders county to Wallace and Orra (Cadwell) Wagner. She was the last of ten children. After the early death of her mother, Velma spent most of her childhood years with her grandparents.
Velma attended school in Wann and Yutan, NE up through the tenth grade. On November 19, 1931 Velma was united in marriage to Theodore Moffitt in Wahoo, NE. They made their home in Ashland, NE for six years, before moving to Seattle, Washington in September of 1937. Velma and Theodore raised four children together.
The family moved back to Nebraska in August of 1950. They lived near Wann, NE for about a year before moving to Lousiville, NE. She then moved to Plattsmouth, NE and lived there until 1990 at which time she moved to Auburn, NE.
Velma was Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in September of 1964. She will be remembered for her deep faith, hard work ethic, sense of humor and her resourcefulness.
Velma entered Nemaha County Good Samaritan Center in April of 1999 and it was there that she passed away on April 30, 2005 having reached the age of 92 years, 9 months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted in 1967 and one son who died in infancy.
Those left to mourn her passing are her children Jessie Liles of Oklahoma City, OK; LaVona Evans of Louisville, NE; Jerald Moffitt of Auburn, NE; Thomas Moffitt of Omaha, NE; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
