Walter D. Parkhurst, age 72, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO. Funeral Services for Walter D. Parkhurst will be held Thursday, January 19 11:00 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, NE. Burial will follow at the Nemaha Cemetery in Nemaha, NE. Visitation is scheduled for Walter D. Parkhurst Tuesday, January 17, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, January 18, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hall Funeral Chapel.
He is survived by his wife Erika Parkhurst of Auburn, NE; daughter Karen Wright and special friend Steve Bruggeman Walton, NE; Karla Stanely and husband Brian of Auburn, NE; and son Erin Parkhurst; six grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 1 great-granddaughter, brothers, Don Parkhurst and wife Caroline of Valentine, NE; Darrel Parkhurst and wife Carol from Kilgore, NE; sister Deloris Hutton and husband Bob of Nemaha, NE; neices, nephews other relatives and many friends.
Obit: Walter Dean Parkhurst, son of Leroy B. Parkhurst and Susan Elizabeth (Holmes), was born June 13, 1933 in Mason City, NE. He was one of five children born to this marriage.
Walt lived in many towns across western Nebraska. His family moved to Brownville, NE in 1952. Walt graduated from Brownville in 1953. He was united in marriage to Erika Dahlke on June 11, 1961 in Nebraska City, NE. To this union three children were born. He had worked as a cook on the Merriweather Lewis. In 1971 he went to work for N.P.P.D. He helped in the construction of Cooper Nuclear Station and retired from Cooper in 1995. Walt also helped farm with his father. When he was first married Walt and Erika lived east and south of Auburn, until moving to a farm near Brownville in 1965 where they lived for nearly 41 years. Walt loved horses, farming, and livestock. He was a race car driver at heart, and loved dancing. He was a long time member of the Eagles Club. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Walt, while dancing at the Eagles Club in Maryville, MO sustained a massive coronary. He was transported to the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville and it is there that he passed away, having reached the age of 72 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Darlene Lewis. He is survived by his wife Erika Parkhurst of Auburn, NE; daughter Karen Wright and special friend Steve Bruggeman of Walton, NE; Karla Stanley and husband Brian of Auburn, NE; and son Erin Parkhurst; six grandsons, one granddaughter, 1 great-granddaughter, brothers, Don Parkhurst and wife Caroline of Valentine, NE; Darrel Parkhurst and wife Carol of Kilgore, NE; sister Deloris Hutton and husband Bob of Nemaha, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
